Abstract: This paper proposes a fully automatic approach for Ca2+ spark events detection in confocal image system. This system automatically detects the region of interest and separates it from the background, automatically finds the optimal thresholds for Ca2+ Sparks detection, and takes advantage of the correlation between two consecutive frames in detecting the Ca2+ sparks. The experiment results show that the proposed method is very promising. Compared to the conventional system (proposed by Cheng et. al. and later improved by Chun et. al.), the preliminary experimental results show that the proposed system can achieve higher accuracy rate without compromising false alarm rate.
