MathWorks Seminar

MathWorks Seminar offered Monday, October 9, 2006 at 5:30 pm in Bonn room.

You must register to receive admission to this Seminar. Space is limited, so if you are interested register at the link below. There will be a MathWorks reception for seminar attendees from 17:30 until 18:00 followed by the Seminar from 18:00 to 19:30.

Topic: What Engineers Should Know about Software Development

Do you control your project’s software? Or do you worry that the software controls you? Perhaps you are too familiar with problems such as these:

  • Last month’s results can’t be reproduced because the software changed.
  • Collaborators use different versions of the software, resulting in confusion.
  • Critical projects rely on “brittle” software that is difficult to modify without breaking it.

The simple, straightforward software development techniques and tools presented in this seminar will help you approach the software components of your work more methodically. That in turn will help you perform your engineering tasks more efficiently and reliably.

Presenter: Dr. Steve Eddins

Steve Eddins is a consulting development manager at The MathWorks, Inc., where he manages the image and geospatial group. He led the development of several versions of the company's Image Processing Toolbox. Prior to joining The MathWorks in 1993, Dr. Eddins was on the faculty of the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at the University of Illinois at Chicago. There he taught graduate and senior classes in digital image processing, computer vision, pattern recognition, and filter design, and he performed research in image compression.

Dr. Eddins coauthored the book Digital Image Processing Using MATLAB and writes regularly about image processing and MATLAB at http://blogs.mathworks.com/steve.

Dr. Eddins holds a B.E.E. (1986) and a Ph.D. (1990), both in electrical engineering, from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a member of the IEEE.
